| Accomplishments: Academic:
- Academic Conference-Every
year, we host an academic conference in which we invite physicians from
the Santa Cruz County medical Society (SCCMS), health career and
academic advisors, and professional and graduate students to give UCSC
students some perspective about the health care and science fields.
- MCAT Panel-
The MCAT Panel is an annual event intended to better infrom students of
graduate school requirements. We have our health career advisor, Marti
Truhitte, speak about medical, nursing, dental, etc. schools and
speakers to talk about the tests required to apply to graduate school,
such as the MCAT and GRE.
- GPA Requirement- Every one of our sisters is required to have a GPA of 3.0 or above every quarter.
- Laboratory Work-The
National Institute of Health (NIH) funds programs such as MARC/IMSD.
The goal of these programs is to give undergraduate students the
opportunity to partake in laboratory research. These programs are great
for students who want to pursue a career in research and many of our
sisters take advantage of this opportunity.
- Teaching Assistant-Many of our sisters TA for classes such as Biology 80A (Female Physiology) and multiple classes through the ACE program. Also, some of the sisters are MSI and LSS leaders for math, chemistry, and biology.
- ABRCMS-This
is a national undergraduate conference for which several of our sisters
are registered. Students are able to give a poster presentation on
their current research. It is also a great time to network and get some
perspective form faculty.
- Kaplan Sponsorship - Kaplan is a leading test preparation company in the nation who sponsors Kappa Gamma Delta.
Community Involvement: In
addition to completing at the very least 10 hours of volunteer work
each quarter, every active member participates in a big service project
planned by our Service Vice President. Some of the volunteer work we
have done include:
- American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Walk
- Human Race
- Habitat for Humanity
- American Cancer Society's Relay-for-Life
- American Heart Association Blood Drives
- AIDS Walk
- Beach and Campus Cleanups
- Dominican Hospital
- Hospice
- HIV testing and Condom Co-op through SHOP
- CPR and First Aid Certification
Sisterhood: To
strengthen our bonds of sisterhood, we have at least four socials each
quarter in which our Social Vice President plans an activity or event
that everyone attends. Some examples of the socials we have done are:
- I-Love-Sushi dinners
- Annual Valentine's Day White Elephant Gift Exchange
- Lake Tahoe Annual Retreat
- Shopping at the mall
- Study socials
- Hiking around campus
- Sleepovers
- Marianne's Ice Cream
- Movie nights
- Petroglyph
- Socials with other fraternities at UCSC
- Scrapbooking
